A place from which there is no escape… no matter how hard Violet tries.

Yet all the riches in the world can’t mask the darkness that lies beneath the gilded surface, embodied in the charismatic but dangerous Kaspar Varn.

Violet and Kaspar surrender to a passion that transcends their separate worlds – but it’s a passion that comes at a price.

Book Description:

International sensation Abigail Gibbs draws us even further into the dangerous and romantic world of the Dark Heroines with AUTUMN ROSE, book two of her breathtakingly magical paranormal series.

Somewhere in a sleepy seaside town in England, Autumn Rose is living a seemingly quite life. But, buried deep under the surface are dark secrets. Autumn’s been dealing with a lot -- her grandmother is dead and the whirling social scene of London in which she was brought up is a world away. To make matters worse, she’s shunned and condemned at her new school, all because of the swirling marks on her skin that prevent her from blending in.

At school, the appearance of a handsome young man sends her world in turmoil. He shares the same markings as Autumn, and knows many of the secrets she’s tried to keep hidden. His arrival at school thrusts her into the limelight, with the unexpected popularity bringing danger as her secrets threaten to come to light. And, Autumn keeps dreaming of a human girl who is about to be seduced by a very dark Prince. Time is her enemy, and she must figure out how to save the human before it is too late.

AUTUMN ROSE continues Abigail Gibbs phenomenal Dark Heroine series with an alluring story of romance, hidden secrets, and captivating magic.

My Take On The Book:

When choosing a book to read, for me the deciding factor is an enthralling storyline. But what keeps me reading and invested in the book is chemistry, the kind that ignites and simmers… this book, this series is chalk full of that chemistry.

While I was aware that Autumn Rose could be read as a standalone I was really excited to read the first book in the series. I eagerly devoured book one and rushed to read book two without taking a break. Each book claimed a unique tagline that rang true and captivated me fully.

The story of Autumn Rose answers any and all questions you might have about her character after having read the first book and subtly continues the story of Kaspar and Violet Lee. Even though the last quarter of the book is a slight retelling of book one, the author does a great job of skimming over the scenes we already read through and kept the story going with new information about where the characters were heading.

Every character was mesmerizing in their own respect and the villains completely chilling. I for one cannot wait for book three when we get to meet the third Heroine and I sincerely hope that wait isn’t too long (I’m extremely impatient).

The Great (Pros):

  • Autumn. Vulnerable and beautiful and still scarily powerful. I love her spunk and sass. She was a quiet character that really blossomed into a leading lady. She was far from weak even though she did have many of those drowning moments but she always found a way to the surface.

  • Fallon. What’s not to love about him, he’s just too adorable.

  • Tee. So cute and spunky its easy to get attached to her character. I haven’t felt an investment in a non lead character’s well being since Rue in ‘The Hunger Games’.

  • Storyline. It was a completely unexpected story with so many ins and outs I didn’t know what to think at first. I loved the path Ms. Gibbs chose to walk us through with each character as they faced their fears. Unique and fresh and exactly what this ailing genre needs to keep it afloat.

  • Romance. What’s not to love about this romance. Fallon is too adorable when dealing with Autumn and it will melt even the strongest of hearts. He is completely genuine with his dealings and feelings (rhyme not intended) when it came to our girl. I love it!

  • Villians. Weird I know, but I do like a good ‘bad guy’… the animosity and despicable nature of these characters are what complete the story, what makes them whole.

The Not So Great (Cons):

None unless you count my complete and utter dislike for Nathan and Kaspar’s attitude making a 180 concerning Autumn.

5 Quills

This book and its predecessor my lovely readers and friends in well worth the time. Its an exceptional book and a unique storyline with captivating and mesmerizing characters. It is dark just as the series title and covers suggest, but it’s beautifully dark in its own respect. It will suck you in and refuse to let go. There are no better ways to describe this series other than telling you to read it and make your own assumptions… So what are you waiting for? Chop Chop! ;)

“I received a free copy of the book from the author/publisher for my honest opinion. I was in no way compensated for this review and all opinions are expressly my own”

About The Author

Abigail Gibbs was born and raised in deepest, darkest Devon, England. She is studying for a B.A. in English at the University of Oxford and considers herself a professional student, as the real world has yet to catch up with her. Her greatest fear is blood and she is a great advocate of vegetarianism, which logically led to the writing of her first novel, The Dark Heroine: Dinner with a Vampire. She splits her time between her studies, stories, and family, and uses coffee to survive all three.
