Book Description:

Sometimes all a girl needs is a little practice...

It's been twelve months, three days, and eleven hours since accounting student Scarlett Logan made it past a second date. A pitcher of mojitos in hand, she employs her supreme graphing skills to narrow things down to one horrifying explanation. Kissing. Clearly someone needs to teach her how to kiss properly. Like, say, her best friend and roomie, Finn Mackenzie. He's safe, he's convenient, and yeah, maybe just a little gorgeous.

Finn knows exactly why Scarlett's boyfriends are disappearing quickly. Him. Not a single guy she's brought home is nearly good enough. And he'll be damned if he lets some loser give her "kissing lessons." No. He'll do the honors, thank you very much. The moment their lips touch, though, everything turns upside down. But Scarlett deserves the one thing Finn can't give her. And if he doesn't put an end to the sexy little shenanigans, he'll teach Scarlett the hardest lesson of all...heartbreak.

My Take:

That was a really cute story full of lots of laughs! I found myself really invested in the story and characters and genuinely rooting for them. I loved the synopsis when I first got the tour invite via email. It felt like the perfect chick-lit read, light and flirty and full of laughs. The fact that it is an HEA title doesn’t hurt either!

I literally got all that and more while reading this book. There was just so much to love about these broken and flawed characters that come together so beautifully. They really do bring out the best in each other and they are so full of scorching  chemistry with a great friendship one can’t help but be in awe of.

Finn is so thoroughly rounded that when he’s clueless at times its adorable and he honestly is a sweet male lead that I just wanted to see happy. The way he interacts with not only Scarlett but his sisters and his friends is so endearing. On the flipside Scarlett seems to be in a perpetual clueless state so when she shows that she has more substance that her beautiful appearance I found myself loving her character as a lead. She’s a loyal character with great traits and a perfect match for Finn.

4.5 Quills

10/10 I would read this again when I need a sweet romantic fix! You get relatable characters with great chemistry and scorching love scenes so its no surprise that you have a win with this title.

About The Author

As a teenager, I was a voracious reader of science fiction, until one day when I was 16, I saw Pride and Prejudice on television. The old version with Laurence Olivier and Greer Garson. I adored it. I’d seen it in the TV guide and, since I had a crush on Laurence Olivier after seeing him in Henry V, I’d taped it.

I watched that tape so often I can still recite most of the dialogue by heart. I sought out the book, devoured it, then found every other Jane Austen book and read and reread them frequently. I only discovered romance as a genre as an adult. Imagine my delight when I first read modern versions of Jane Austen!

Now I read most subgenres of romance, from category to historical to romantic comedy. Such a banquet!

Finding Now (True North #3) Review and Teasers + #Giveaway

Finding Now
True North
Book #3
Allie Juliette Mousseau

Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance
Release Date: September 1, 2014

ASIN: B00MRJCYXI
Pages: 226

Goodreads Rating: 4.56
My Rating: 5.0

Book Description:

After a tragic accident that plays on an endless loop in her mind, wild child Kate Jolie died inside. She now functions only through her rigid, ironclad routine, which keeps her mind and soul in check – balancing her in a dangerously precarious position between life and death

Rocker and Master's student Sam North knows no limits and seeks out every challenge to conquer and defy. With his cocky grin, piercings, colorful tattoos, undress-you bedroom eyes and magnetic sex appeal, he has no trouble finding women to warm his bed. When he spies his new professor, the gorgeous Ms. Jolie, she’s just another summit he wants to climb in order to reach its peak. But as he begins to catch glimpses of her soul, she becomes his Everest.

Kate Jolie is the only woman who wants nothing to do with Sam North - and the only woman he can’t do without.

My Take On The Book:

Its no surprise to you guys that I find Ms. Mousseau to be an extremely talented writer. I completely and utterly adore her work. The worlds she creates are so beautiful and filled with raw emotion. They sizzle and entice. What many of you don't know is my complete and utter fascination with Sam North lol. From book 1 he wormed his way into my heart and became my favorite North of the series... tho Josh is slowly moving his way up in the ranks. What is suprising is how long it took me to actually crack open this book.

I'm a fast reader and in the past, I've devoured The True North Series in as little as 3 hours. I knew I wanted to savor this one and I wanted to give the best review I could of this book. So I read it close to my post date, the day before to be perfectly honest and dove right into the review once it was finished.

The Great (Pros):

  • Sam. He has always and will quite possible always be my favorite North. His attempts at being aloof and strong and unaffected are just that attempts. And pretty feeble ones if you ask me. He's still a strong man, with an iron will but he can't really hide the sweetheart he is no matter how hard he tries.

  • Kate/Jolie. What is not to love about this firecracker survivor. She's a shattered woman who has gone through what many haven't and should never but she makes herself keep going. The way she grows as a character is breathtaking.

  • The setting. I like the setting of this book more than the others. While Sam is very much a family man, and the book has a lot of family moments I felt like it was a breath of fresh air. It takes place almost completely away from said family and I feel like it help the story progress rather than hinder it.

  • The backstory. While we know of Sam from the previous books we don't know Sam till this book and its a very beautiful story. Kate's story is even more beautiful and full of perseverance. She's such a strong character, completely vulnerable and racked with guilt but yet so strong.

  • The Flu. So simple and yet a perfect description of the situation. Being love struck has very flu like symptoms so I found this to be hilarious and very accurate.

The Not So Great (Cons):

  • Will. I know! It absolutely kills me to write this, as he is literally Sam but on a bike. I loved him in previous stories, and I can appreciate that he will quite possibly be the hardest of the North brother to tame but he was so abrassive and rough. Omg, heaven help me for saying this but too rough I kinda wanted to shake the dude and maybe smack him upside the head.

  • Kate's Mom. I both loved and hated her. She wasn't a bad character but I grew to love Kate immensly so any hardships on her felt like a physical blow to me.

5 Quills

A sizzling read I could dive into over and over. This book, this story is like your favorite song, or your favorite pair of shoes. Priceless and will always hold a special place in your heart. I can't recommend this book enough. And as always, while all the books in this series are beautiful and worth reading and should be read in synchronicity, they can be read as standalone.

Book Description:

All Beatriz “Bia” Fernandes wants is to prove herself—to her family and friends—though it’s hard to prove anything with an overbearing father and three famous polo-playing older brothers. After her acceptance into college results in a heated family argument, the Brazilian girl leaves everything behind to find her own American dream.

College life away from home is perfect until the people she believes to be her friends turn on her. With lies and rumors threatening to suffocate her, Bia turns to her only freedom. Riding.

But one thing gets in the way of her escape. Garrett Blackwell and his bad cowboy attitude. Working at the ranch is his obligation, bugging Bia is his newfound hobby. His thick skin and easy grin don’t hide what Bia already knows—this misunderstood and lonely cowboy fights his own demons. Brushing horses’ coats and mucking out stalls shouldn’t be this sexy, and it isn’t long before he becomes a part of her distraction.

However, escaping won’t solve her problems, and it’s up to Bia to break down the fences around her and prove her strength—not to her family and friends, but to herself … and for Garrett. Because standing on her own doesn’t have to mean standing alone.

** Companion novel of Breaking the Reins. Can be read out of order.**

My Take On The Book:

So, I’m not ashamed to admit that I squealed at the end of this book. I really enjoyed this book, maybe more than I like the first book in the series… And let me just say I loooovvveeed book 1. I fell in love with series when the author introduced us readers to Hannah and Leo, a couple that was just too cute. There was more than steamy chemistry for those two but this book was a whole different ball game. It was steamier and umm well I love cowboys ;) lol.

In all seriousness tho, I really enjoyed learning more about Bia. She was a character I instantly liked in the first book so getting to read a whole book about her kinda rocked. I knew this was bound to be good, and Ms. Haygert did not disappoint. Breaking Fences gave us a look into the college life and introduced us to a whole slew of characters… many of which I wanted to slap around. In this book, you learn that the brave and take no shit Bia is just as vulnerable as anyone and you get a look at her softer side all while getting acquainted with the yummy Garret who has issues of his own to sort. My only pet peeve with this one was the massive predictability but it more than made up for that when you are met with a mellower read in comparison to the first book which is really packed with a lot of ‘Oh shit’ moments.
4.5 Quills

I’ve been a fan of Juliana Haygert since I picked up Everlast book one, Destiny Gift. She is an extremely talented author with a very vivid imagination, an imagination she seems to have no problem putting on paper and portraying. Her writing style is easy to follow, so don’t be surprised if you find yourself fully emerged in the world she creates and shares with her readers. I recommend this series to anyone who enjoys romance, sizzle, and captivating stories that are easy to follow.

True North: Finding Us Review + #Giveaway

Finding Us: Jules and Nate
True North Series
Book #2
Allie Juliette Mousseau

Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance
Release Date: May 14, 2014

ASIN: B00KBILYMY

Pages: 240
Goodreads Rating: 4.34

My Rating: 5.0

Book Description:

Nathaniel Morrisey thought he had a handle on his affections for the one woman he ever cared about, Julia North, who happened to be his boss’s daughter and best friend’s little sister. But Jules is about to blow that calm self-control he's had a tight grip on all to hell.

Nate's desire to protect Jules—especially from himself—and the overwhelming emotions he feels for her, have waged a war inside of him; having been abandoned and abused as a child, how could he ever love and treat a woman like Julia North the way she deserved?

Julia North knows Nathaniel Morrisey is the only one for her, but with a past like a dark shadow, Nate's as turbulent as the wild horses he rides.

Will Jules be strong enough to hold on unconditionally, or will she decide it’s finally time to let go?

*This book is intended for mature audiences (18+) due to sexual content and strong language.

My Take On The Book:

I think it’s safe to say that I love Allie even more after reading this book. Unlike book one, this one was quick in the matchmaking department. The remainder focused on Nate overcoming his demons. On a completely irrelavent side note, one of my absolute favorite moments is when Jules gets her tattoo as it is very very similar to mine (a purple quill along my side with a flourish leading into a musical shooting star with the feathers breaking up on the top into birds.)

Before reading this I expected damaged Nate and a little self hate but the sheer force of it is enough to floor anyone and I’m not ashamed to admit to crying. But for every shed tear you are rewarded with some epic laugh, lines and a whole lot of scorching toe curling scenes.

The Great (Pros):

  • Everything

The Not So Great (Cons):

  • Nothing
