About the Author:

Cynic realist, and hopeless romantic all rolled into one, Eden was born and raised in a normal, sunny town in South Carolina where thunderstorms helped inspire her best ideas. There are few things she loves more than curling up with a good book and a cup of coffee on a rainy day (except maybe chocolate cake, she loves cake), often reading into the wee hours of morning when something really grabs her.

Eden enjoys reading or watching anything with supernatural elements, so writing paranormal and fantasy romance is a natural fit.

Her first novel, Dark Siren, is best described as paranormal romance artfully wrapped within a plot chock-full of action, adventure, and edge-of-your-seat suspense, while the series has evolved to become a journey of redemption and second chances as two characters understand that sometimes committing evil is necessary to protect what is loved most. Eden took the siren from Greek mythology (and borrowed a little from mermaid lore), creating an entirely different creature, with its own mythology, and one that Publisher's Weekly praised for its passion and complexity. This is not just another werewolf/shapeshifter romance or vampire romance. This is a story that both adults and teens can enjoy, full of great characters to fall in love with!

Book Description:

Allie Carmichael has always believed life is simple.

You’re born.
You live.
You die.

She has no cause to believe that equation works differently for her, but there has to be a reason the world treats her like a pariah.

When an unexpected move to Kelleys Island brings Aidan McBrien crashing into her life, Allie is thrown by his reaction. He doesn’t shrink from her touch. He doesn’t stutter or make a quick exit. He smiles and welcomes her into his circle of friends, who aren’t exactly comfortable with Allie, but they seem to get her in a way most people don’t.

Finally, Allie has a real shot at normal and rides that high right up to her sixteenth birthday when she wakes in agony—an experience Aidan insists they have all faced. She struggles in ignorance, uncertain of what is real and what isn’t. When she emerges, Allie is different. She has always been different, but even among her extraordinary friends, she and Aidan are special.

As Allie struggles to maintain her tenuous grasp on the power that threatens to overwhelm her, she worries she will lose herself in this strange new world. A dangerous world where she will have to fight tooth and nail to defend the power and freedom that is her birthright.

…only Allie hates to fight.

My Take:

I am at a loss for words and in complete awe of this book. I was hooked from the first page an unwilling to put this book down. Its an innovative and unique story with loveable characters.

Allie is such a strong female lead and I loved that she didn't need a man to define her or her abilities, as a matter of fact romance was not even really a factor in this story which is really really refreshing. Sure, there are love interests but that does not make pr break the story. I really can not find enoug words to describe how utterly awesome this story was!

The Great (Pros):

  • Allie. Like I said, Allie is a super strong and feisty character. I loved her tenacity.
  • Aiden. He's adorably jaded and such an amazing character.
  • Sasha. I loved Sasha. She wasn't a character that was mentioned a lot but I really loved when she interacted with the other leads!
  • Other Supporting Characters. I really enjoyed the interactions between the other supporting characters just like I enjoyed Sasha's character. It was really fun to learn about these characters and what made them tick.
  • Bonds. I loved all the bonds formed between characters, superficial or otherwise. The inclusion of these 'supernatural' bonds that are formed between individuals was also another major selling point for me.
  • Storyline. This story line is in a league of its own. Never once did I feel like I was reading a world I had already visited. I loved all the intricacies that make up this story and all the character story lines.
  • History. The history of these characters is astounding. I've always been a bit of a history junkie so I got a massive kick at the inclusion of these great figure heads in history being included in the history of this book. I also really like how these characters shared their history with others.

The Not So Great (Cons):

  • Vince. I really was not a fan of his character. He just felt so unnecessary. Granted, he seems less annoying now that I've read the novella that follows this book and serves as a prequel. It makes a lot of this going ons in this book make so much sense, so I really recommend reading them both! But anyways, Vince wasn't a 'bad' guy per say, at least not in this book or yet, but he just irks me and felt like a useless character although in retrospect he probably is a tad more important than I give him credit for now that I've read book 1.5.
  • Some minor inconsistencies. Nothing to get all in a huff about but there were like maybe 3 or 4 moments that didn't really match up, but I'm just overly observant. Once again, if you read 1.5, its cleared up for you but since this is a review of book 1, it has to be mentioned.
  • Use of har har. I know it seems like such a random con but it was just really annoying and broke up the flow of the dialogue. I got really peeved after about the 10th time I read it so yea lol.

5 Quills

I'm really happy I had the opportunity to read and review this book and I am anxiously awaiting book 2 in the series. Unfortunately, I could find no info on the release of that novel or even a working title so sadly I in the dark completely BUT based off of the 2 I have read, I have high hope for the sequel. If you are looking for a great read with strong and loyal character that you will most probably fall in love with, then look no further! Emerge: The Awakening is an action packed, emotionally driven story that is sure to draw you in.

Emerge: The Edge

About The Author

Melissa A. Craven (the "A" stands for Ann—in case you were wondering) was born near Atlanta, Georgia, but moved to Cleveland, Ohio at the age of seventeen. She still thinks of Cleveland as home, so it was only natural for Emerge to take place there.

Today, she is back in Atlanta—for some reason she can't seem to stay away from the ungodly heat that makes her long for things like "lake effect snow" and wind that will knock you flat.
Melissa decided a long time ago that the “life checklist” everyone else was clutching so tightly in their fists, just wasn’t for her. She does everything backwards because she is weird like that, but then, she is an artist and artists are notoriously "unique" and "quirky."

She is an avid student of art and design, and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of West Georgia in 2009. She worked as an interior designer for several years, but she's always thought she might like to be a writer when she grows up.

In her spare time, if she has any, she enjoys shopping for derelict furniture she refinishes to exercise the interior design part of her brain.

Seeress Release Event Teaser, Review & Excerpt + #Giveaway

Seeress
Runes Series
Book #3
Ednah Walters

Genre: YA Paranormal Fantasy
Release Date: April 28th 2014
Publisher: Firetrail Publishing

ISBN: 978-1311363312
ASIN: B00JZ1D4QC

Pages: 296
Goodreads Rating:  4.61
My Rating: 5.0

Book Description:

I love Torin St. James...
I need his strength…
But someone from his past wants me dead.

Raine Cooper is certain of two things: her love for Torin St. James and her destiny to be a powerful seeress. But when she starts having premonitions, they are unclear and disturbing. Worse, they involve Torin. With her mother gone, her father dying, and her best friend in Hel, she is not sure who to talk to.

But when the visions become more personal and she foresees her future with Torin threatened by someone from his past, Raine becomes desperate for answers. Just her luck two new students arrive at her school and they seem to have answers. When with them, her powers are enhanced and her visions become clear. There is only one problem: Torin forbids Raine to see the two girls.

Can their love survive without trust?

My Take On The Book:

How do you start a review on a book you wish you’d never finished and want to re-read again and again…. Oh that’s right, I just did it lol ;). So lets skip the formalities and get right into the ‘why’ of my rating.

The Great (Pros):

  • Witches. I love witches lol. So its no surprise that I was pretty stocked when one of my favorite series introduced them. Sure there has been mention of them and tons of magic since book 1 but not the actual she-bang so it was a nice refresher.

  • Torin & Raine. Pffttt like I could write a pros and cons list and not include this swoon worthy couple. ;)

  • The Guys. We get a nice healthy dose of all the men we love. Although I could have done with a bit more of Echo and Andris snark.

  • Cora. This girl is just awesome so I loved that she was included in this story but if I’m honest with myself she’s not to prominent in this story. But her last line in this book totally had me reaching for my copies of book 1, 2 and 2.5 so I could re-read the epicness!

  • New Characters. I like when you get to meet new character in a series. It gives the already awesome characters the ability to grow and interact, so we get to see them in different situations. But I love it more we you become invested in those characters as much as the leads.

  • Character Growth. This book really focuses of Raine… way more as a singular person than part of a couple. You really get to see her grow up and I loved that. She’s not the only one with character growth but her evolution is the most prominent.

  • Eririk. I’ve grown to love his character immensely since book 2 and I was so happy to have a dose of Eririk in this one as well… tho, he’s not in this nearly enough.

  • Honestly…. I loved everything <3

The Not So Great (Cons):

Umm that the story ended? There was no love triangle in this one… thank god. And the only problem I had with this book was that I finished reading it and I have to wait for the next release. But I guess I have to be a good little fan and wait patiently for the next installment. Oh and Eririk needs his happily ever after already! K thanks ;)

5 Quills

If I had to pick a book in this series that I felt was the best then this would definitely take the top slot. It’s epic in all its epicness.

Excerpt from Seeress

In-between classes, I cocked my ear to catch the song again. No such luck.

Lunch time, Torin was waiting outside my class, a group of girls hanging on his every word. One reached up and brushed his shirt. That was crossing the line. I stake my claim when I reached his side, sliding my hand into his. They took off. “Groupies?”

He laughed. “No.”

“Next time Leanna Finch strokes your chest, I’ll break her fingers.”

“Who’s Leanna?”

I forgave him for not noticing. Girls were always pushing boundaries like damn predator checking for weaknesses. Someone needed to tell them Torin and I was tight. Fortified like Fort Knox. “Have you seen Ingrid?”

“No.” He stroked my cheek with his knuckles. “Are we eating here or at home? I can make us something.”

I wanted to stay there and let him stroke me. His touch was intoxicating. But first things first. “Okay, but I need to ask Ingrid something first.”

He went still. “About?”

“Something.” I reached up and kissed him. “Go. I’m right behind you.”

He didn’t look happy leaving me behind, which was sweet.

“I won’t take long,” I added.

He nodded. With a fingertip brush across my cheek, he disappeared into the men’s room to find a portal. I shook my head. Sometimes he could be so possessive. He hadn’t had a relationship in centuries and was learning to adjust to ours, which hadn’t exactly been smooth. What mattered was we loved it each other, knew it and cherished out time together. Whatever bumps laid ahead, and I was sure the Norns weren’t done with us, I was determined to never let them destroy what we had.

I turned the corner and saw Cora at the cafeteria entrance. Her lunch schedule depended on whether or not Echo was around. She waved.

“Please tell me you’re eating here. Please. Echo will be gone most of today and evening,” Cora explained. “There was a fire at some nursing home in Seattle.”

“I’m heading home, but you can join us. Torin already left to make something.”

She sighed melodramatically and looked around the cafeteria. “I don’t want to be a third wheel.”

“You won’t be.”

“Nah. Go enjoy your man.” She waved and I turned to see three girls from the swim team, Kicker, Sonya and Tess. “I’ll join the girls and catch up on the latest gossip. See you tonight.”

“You want to come and watch The Originals online? I missed last two episodes.”
Her eyes widened. “Ohmigod, the poor, damaged, just-needs-to-be-loved Klaus. I have to get my Klaus fix every week. I’ve even gotten Echo to tolerate him. Okay, I’ll watch with you, so we can hate on some witches. I also want your opinion on something.”

“Okay.” Ingrid, her cheerleader friends, and their jock boyfriends walked in.

Cora beamed at me and gave me a quick hug. “You’re the best.”

Everyone at Ingrid’s looked up questioningly when I stopped by their table. “What?”

“Where’s Torin?” a girl asked.

“Around. You know I can actually breathe without him. Ingrid.” I indicated outside with a nod and took off.

“What’s going on?” she asked, sounding a bit worried.

“I want to pick your brain.” Some of the students were hanging out on the deck. Others threw football in the grassy area along the building. It was still cold, but the sun was up and diehards were already wearing shorts. I found an area away from the others and faced her.

“You are beginning to worry me,” Ingrid said. “If this is about Andris—”

“No, this is about me. Do you remember I told you last night that I heard the woman sing during my vision?”

She nodded. “Varðlokur.”

“Varo-what?”

“The warding or spirit-summoning song. We sing it before the Seeress goes into a trance. What about it?”

“I thought I heard it this morning.”

Her frown deepened. “Where?”

“Here at school. What does that mean?” I saw a movement from the corner of my eyes and turned to look. It was Blaine. He waved.

“I don’t know. I guess whoever sang the song last night is a student here.”

“But the Seeress was older. At least, she sounded older.”

“Uh, that’s because the Seeress never does the singing. Someone else does. You sure it wasn’t the same voice?”

I nodded. Someone working with a Seeress was here at my school. “Is Blaine waiting for you?” He was talking to friends but he kept looking in our direction.

Ingrid waved to him. “No. Do you want me to point her out when I recognize her?”

“You can do that?”

She shrugged. “Oh, yes. It’s like, uh, having a witch radar. Why do you think Maliina hated you from the moment she saw you?”

“Uh, because Andris was being a total douche?”

She laughed. “That came second. My sister was a powerful Seidr witch, but in you, she saw something else. Something she’d never seen before and she was jealous. Maliina always wanted to be important and, uh, revered. Back at home, they did, but it wasn’t enough. Then she met Andris and he turned her. But he took her away from home and her adoring fans. She stopped being important and she didn’t like it. That’s why she joined the Norns. She was very ambitious.”

It didn’t excuse what she’d done, but it made sense. “So what did she see in me?”

Ingrid shrugged. “A more powerful witch, I guess. I’m not as strong as Maliina, but I should be able to spot the witch here at school. I’ll let you know when I do.”

“Thanks.” I really liked this new Ingrid. She stopped by the group with Blaine, said something to him and disappeared inside the building. Blaine followed her. I went to the nearest restroom and headed home to Torin.

Review on the Runes Series by Ednah Walters (Book 1 & 2)

Runes

Runes #1

Ednah Walters

Genre: YA Paranormal Fantasy
Release Date: June 8, 2013
Publisher: Firetrail Publishing

ISBN: 978-0983429760
ASIN: B00CP4YKTG

Goodreads Rating: 4.14

My Raiting: 4.5

Summary:

Seventeen-year-old Raine Cooper has enough on her plate dealing with her father’s disappearance, her mother’s erratic behavior and the possibility of her boyfriend relocating. The last thing she needs is Torin St. James—a mysterious new neighbor with a wicked smile and uncanny way of reading her.

Raine is drawn to Torin’s dark sexiness against her better judgment, until he saves her life with weird marks and she realizes he is different. But by healing her, Torin changes something inside Raine. Now she can’t stop thinking about him. Half the time, she’s not sure whether to fall into his arms or run.

Scared, she sets out to find out what Torin is. But the closer she gets to the truth the more she uncovers something sinister about Torin. What Torin is goes back to an ancient mythology and Raine is somehow part of it. Not only are she and her friends in danger, she must choose a side, but the wrong choice will cost Raine her life

My Thoughts

I admit, I went about this reviewing thing backwards lol, because I started reading this series with book 2.5 Grimnirs. I absolutely adored this vook, the stosy was enthralling, I read through book one within a couple of hours and knew I had to jump into book 2 immediately. I blame the cliffhanger ending for my chewed up nails and my lack of sufficient sleep, I was on edge and I needed to know what would happen to Raine.

I'm not a particular fan of love triangle but this one felt more like a love square or octagon or w.e and my heart ached for everyone inolved. In truth, there is sooooo much I want to write but I'm scared to give away something crucial.

The story itself started slow, like really slow ( but it wasn't a bad slow) and I felt like the romance between Raine and Eirik was just too forced and unnatural. Both their hearts were somewhere else. I love the dude, he seems like such a good person but I'm team Torin in this one!.

Let me just say though..... I love the Inuyasha shout out when they mention the manga and talk about Lord Sesshomaru... thats my favorite Manga/Anime! I was obssesed with the whole Feudal Japan thing and for this book to mention it, kinda made my day lol.

My Raiting: 5

Summary:

Nothing can stop Raine Cooper when she wants something...
Raine finally knows that her gorgeous neighbor, Torin St. James, is a legend straight out of Norse mythology, and that her feelings for him are strong. Torin is crazy about Raine too, breaking the one rule he lives by: Never fall for a mortal. The problem is he no longer remembers her, his memories erased by Norns—Norse destiny deities—to punish her for defying them.

So Raine comes up with a plan...
She will make Torin forget his one rule a second time and fall in love with her all over again.
But she quickly learns that well-laid plans do not work when dealing with deities and supernatural beings. Desperate, Raine makes choices that could not only tear her and Torin further apart, but lead to the destruction of everything and everyone she loves.

My Thoughts

Well hot dang! This book deserves the 5 stars! While I enjoyed the other 2 books, this was by far the best in the series.

There are some minor inconsictenies between the 3 its nothing to get your panties in a twist. I adore Torin & Raine in this book their connction just seems so profound. ::Sigh:: <3 Andris grows on you and so does Ingrid... but I kind of wish we knew more about her.

Now lets talk about Eirik. Poor beautiful Eirik, the lovey Deity. My heart will forever hurt for this kid, I'm pretty sure Ms. Walters has it out for him, cause he really never gets a break. Hi life kind of sucks.

But truth be told I think what I liked most about these books are the characters. Raine's mom, is a solid character who loves her family so much. Her father, a fighter. Lavinia, a lovely mentor... The Valkeries everyone of them. The horrible Norns and Maliina the crazy bish who is so horrifically vile she give Hel and the Norns a run for their money. Finding out why the Norns want Raine was the highlight of my nght and I can't wait for Book 3 'Seeres' to come out!

My Favorite Quotes for Book 1 & 2

Oh, so I'm your boyfriend?" His eyebrows shot up again and met the lock of hair on his forehead.
I reached up and swept the bangs aside. "You claimed me back there, so I have no choice but to take pity on you and claim you, too." -Book 2 (Torin and Raine)

Don't do that," Torin said in a hard voice, his eyes frosty as he stared at Lavina. "You have no idea what Raine's been through at the hands of those Norns, so don't belittle what she's done or talk to her like she doesn't know what she's talking about. Let her speak. Please."
Silence filled the room. If I wasn;t in love with hime, I would have fallen for him hard right there and then. - Book 2 (Torin and Raine)

"Are you absolutely sure about your feelings for him? I mean, if I were to kiss you right now, you wouldn't be tempted to rip my clothes off and have your way with me?" - Book 2 (Eirik)
"My eyes would dilate, my heart would beat harder, and I'd start panting like a cocker spaniel after chasing its tail." He laughed. I went for the kill. "You're an amazing kisser, and I'm only human." Book 2 (Raine)

"Cute. Nice meeting you, Raine with an E." - Book 1 (Torin)

"Magic?" My hands fisted. I was in trouble, and he was messing around. "You know what? Stay away from me, Blue Eyes. Don't talk to me or even acknowledge we know each other when our pths cross again."
Blue Eyes?" he asked.... - Book 1 (Torin and Raine)
