My Take on the Book:

I’m at a slight loss for words.

This book was really interesting. It was the kind of book many people could read in one extended sitting. I liked the characters and the connections being formed but I didn’t love them.

I also found myself slightly annoyed with the speed of the book. It never seemed to have a steady flow. At times the story would just rush past, leaving me feeling robbed of an experience and then at other times I felt like it dragged on. To me, pace is one of the most important aspects of a book. The premise was solid. The story was great. But the pace left me feeling unsatisfied.

As for the characters, as I stated earlier, they were likeable. Some characters just had more on page charisma than others. At first I liked Cassidy, a lot but as the story progressed I felt like she just kinda stayed put. There was a lot of growth that could have happened, a lot of self-discovery but she fell a little flat. She was strong willed and that is a definite plus and I appreciated her kind heart but there were some actions that never had a follow through or follow up that I caught myself thinking about when she questions the motive of other characters.

Casper, was one of those charismatic characters that you just wanted to get to know. It was that way from the moment is shakily stepped foot on page; Lena was another character with that strength. I was bummed when I realized they wouldn’t get to shine much in this story.

Killian is another character that left me feeling conflicted. He has the making of a devastatingly beloved book boyfriend but since the story felt rushed, I don’t think he got the time he needed to make us fall in love with him.

I struggled with this rating because I really liked the idea of this book. When I read the first passage, I was hooked. Curious. But then the story progressed and I didn’t build those connections you do as a reader. It’s a really interesting and good book with a gorgeous cover and some truly likeable characters. But in the end, the author did write a truly interesting story and I’m compelled to continue the journey and read the next installment.

My Take on the Book:

For lack of a better saying holy hell. This book was the epitome of Awesome. I absolutely adored book 1 and I couldn't wait to jump into book 2. While reading the story you're thrust into this world that's stuck in between the balance of good and evil. Every little nuance of each side was done impeccably. I loved reading the continuation of Quinn's story and learning more about Aaron/Kaemon. The back story between the crew and their past lives was so spectacular.

I also found a lot of satisfaction in Quinn finally opening up to other people. It was great to see Reese finally being there for her best friend with no secrets between them. 

In this book were introduced to some new characters, and given a better glimpse into some of the older characters. We meet a character named Caleb, who has a small ability similar but not as strong as Quinn's. Is definitely a character I look forward to reading more about in the next book because I have some suspicions of him, its just a little too coincidental that he has a small ability to see as she does. But don't worry I'm not suspicious in a bad way, so feel free to fall in love with him.

It was also really fun to see Quinn step out of her damsel-in-distress role and dive headlong into the kick-ass character we all knew she could be. I also loved that Marcus played an even bigger role than he did in the previous book. A big supporter of Quinn when people just thought she was insane.

I definitely feel that the back story was developed a lot more in this book that it was in the previous. Book one you're introduced to these characters and just giving a slight glimpse into the terror that is their world. But in this book you get this fleshed-out story that's holds you what made it the way it is, why they're dealing with what they're dealing.

Now the first book was a little dark, but not exactly the kind of give you nightmares book that one would expect with Shadow Demon figures. This one definitely has the massive creep factor making it seem more of a young adult horror novel then a paranormal fantasy. This author has an amazing way of writing scenes and characters that make them almost real. There was a bit of predictability but only because you've grown to know these characters so well that you kind of know where they're going, so its not as irksome as other books.

This book doesn't pick up exactly where book 1 ended, there's some weeks in between the final scenes of book one and this one's beginning but I feel like it gave Quinn more room for growth. You don't have to deal with those uncertain moments that would have inevitably made her week and unlikable. You're introduced to Quinn 2.0 or rather 1.5. You get to see her still uncertain and holding onto a grasp of that lost girl from book 1 but she's in the process of this metamorphosis into the new are better when you get at the end of book 2.

5 Quills 

This series is a perfect mixture of Supernatural meets Pandora's box, with lots of twists and turns and unforgettable characters. I don't think I can stress how amazing I found this book or how much I love the series. It's really good and pretty easy to follow. It's written with a clear story arc and a pretty easy to follow line from point A to point B. But you're also given all these crazy and action filled crescendos. I just absolutely adored the premise of the story and the execution. I cannot wait for the next book in the series as I'm sure it's going to be even better than this one.

My Take On The Book:

I am without a doubt absolutely speechless. The book was just that good!

FIRST, before I go on... let me say that this review was a loooonnggg time coming but due to a series of unforeseen events and an ever growing list of reviews that needed to be posted by a certain date and lots of paperbacks that were sent my way before this novel, I was left with no other option but to bid my time. I've been anxious to read it and it along with one other book has been sitting on the dresser right next to my desk for months. And I do mean months. So I apologize to not only you guys who read my reviews but to the ever talented Ms. Hibbs.

Now without further ado by review. The story picks up literally right where the last one ended. With a heartbroken Ally and thrusts you right back into to the tearful and unfair world that this ensemble has to endure. Its an emotional roller coaster full of surprises and couple of unfortunate mishaps and a lots of tugging at the heart strings... but this book is GOLDEN. Its a relatively short read and didn't take me as long (even tho they are roughly the same length) as the first to get through. But I believe that had more to do with my unwillingness to put the book down.

The cover is as you can see very similar to the first but a hell of a lot darker which fits the mood of this book, and from what I gather a reoccurring theme to the series. I happen to love when a series does that so kudos!

Also, its worth noting that while the first book is packed with details and a bit on the slow side this books was mostly fast paced and in your face. (rhyme not intended) there was a lot of I knew it moments but the were woven into the story so beautifully. I especially enjoyed the importance of the name of this book and it was a foreshadowing of whats to come.

I had only one major peeve about this book, one that I unfortunately can't share as its a major spoiler but I'm extremely anxious to read book 3, following a completely different main character than the first 2 but one that is just as important. And of course I am more than eager to get my hands on what I can only assume will be the fourth as the ending of this books proves there is a lot more left to come for our heroine and her friends.

My Take On The Book:
This book was captivating from the go. I dived into the story and was swept away to this world of demons and angels and hunters. It was a great story with action, descriptions and romance. Even if that romance at times pushed the genre of YA to the limits. 
I fell in love with the characters and was invested in their well being by chapter 3 which is a rare feat. And even tho there were some guesses as to how the story would play out I was never 100% sure how it would turn out. I loved that the author kept me guessing, worried yet hopeful. Alex and Gabby are 2 characters that are hard not to love and Sammy is just a breath of fresh air. But ironically enough I felt like the adults had the more interesting story lines. I wish I could sit here and write everything this book made me feel but I know if I get started it would be hard to remove those glaring spoilers and I want everyone to enjoy this story as much as I did.
The Great (Pros):

• The romances. I love romance stories and this was no different except you know, the whole fallen angels business. It was just the right amount of tortured (not long at all) and the perfect measurement of sweet. I had my 'hold your breath' moments with some of the characters and there love interests but everything felt so seamless and well planed out.

• Characters. Its been awhile since I've read a YA book with such planned out characters. I felt like every detail was mapped out so that there were no inconsistencies. It made for a really enjoyable read and a nice transition into their back stories. 

• The plot. I'm a huge fan of story lines. I've been known to read thru books/stories I felt were mediocre in the writing department just because I enjoyed the plot. Luckily, the writing was spot on and the plot was even better in this one.

The Not So Great (Cons):

• Disconnect. My only real complaint was what I felt to be a disconnect with the story and the ages of these characters. Many of the younger ones didn't feel like their age and i mean that in a loose term. At times the angels/demons felt younger and then older and the same goes for the regular characters. It was slightly disconcerting when the mention of school was brought up. like the harsh reminder that yep these aren't adults or even older teens but young teens at most 17 years old.

I personally can not wait to  get my hands on the next books of this series. I am really excited to learn more about these characters and see how the story progresses. And as always once I've read the book, I'll review it! I think I know what I'm gonna add to my list this christmas lol. As for a recoommendation.... Of course. It's a well planned book that is definitely not lacking in umph. It was so good that I struggled to rate this one. I wanted to give it a 5 because I loved it so much but then there were a few key pieces that I felt could be improved upon. I suggest you guys and gals read it for yourself and decide where it stands.

My Take On The Book:

At first glance, I was intrigued. The synopsis was enticing and the cover interesting. I really enjoyed the grainy look of the cover as apposed to the shiny one of other books of this genre. In my mind the grainy look of the cover foretold of a book, a story full of grit. The only thing from the cover that I could have done without was the font. I felt like it may have taken away from the beauty of the presentation. As for what you all really care about, the story itself I really, really, really, REALLY liked it. It was different and yet I felt like it may have come from the same universe of other Young Adult Books that I hold dear to my heart.

Once again, there are a lot of ‘I knew it’ moments and I really wanted to smack the main character Ally a couple of times but overall I really liked her character and enjoyed the story and its progression. Now I am all for the strong, feisty female leads but I found something endearing in Ally’s humanity and weakness even if she herself is not human. Her mistakes were real and though as a reader you might see them coming and find yourself angry at that please remember, as a young adult reader we see the signs while the character herself has been sheltered and takes things at face value.

Now I’ll admit that all was not perfect while reading this book. The beginning sounds really interesting in the synopsis and even has moments of Oh Mah Gawd but it was a bit on the slow side. It took a bit for me to get into it but the wait is worth it because once the story picks up, it really pulls you in. I didn’t want to put down the book and I had to stop myself from reading ahead cause I was literally biting my nails.

I am extremely excited for book 2 'Black Abaddon'. I have to know what happens to these characters and how the story will unfold. Kudos to Ms. Hibbs for writing such a unique read.

If you enjoyed books like Melissa De La Cruz’s Blue Bloods series and Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments then you will find this book is right down your alley. Its got a mysterious feel to it that leaves you craving more. You can expect a review of book 2 as soon as I can get my hands on it ^_^

He pulled the car over to the side of the road and parked it. A heavy silence grew between us. The rain thrummed against the roof of his car and my heart stuttered anxiously against my ribs, like a hummingbird flapping its tiny wings.

Tears burned my eyes, making me grateful for the heavy rain that washed them away, cooling my skin. “I’ll walk.”

“Come on,” he said, “don’t be foolish. You’ll catch a cold.” A wet strand of hair clung to my face. He brushed it aside, so gently, and a deep current trembled through me, compelling me toward him. It was all I could do to hold my ground. His eyes widened and he stepped back. In that moment, I knew he felt it too.

I glared at him. How dare he touch me? Why did he care? Why did he pay attention to me at all?

He shook his head sadly. “Mia, I’m…”

Taken. I know. I shook my head, not wanting to hear any more, and there was this look he gave me, a mixture of pain and something else—something forbidden—that made me want to kiss the rain from his lips.
