My Take on the Book:

Oh mah lawwddie

This book was literally one massive tear jerker for me. I kinda wish I hadn’t waited this long to read it because a tear jerker and a cold does not make for a happy nose lol.

On that note, I wasn’t absolutely crazy about book 1. I found that I really liked the concept but the execution felt like it was lacking. It didn’t have the drive and for lack of better words but personality and character as book 2. Everything about book 1 that I wasn’t a fan of either went poof or made book 2 all the better.

I feel like the characters got a better chance at developing. While I was reading Fire in the Woods, I couldn’t connect with our main characters until literally the very very end. But book 2 managed to wow me and make me feel for these characters and what they needed to accomplish. Every moment between them left me emotionally invested.

I honestly hope this is not the last of these characters!

In this book you are reintroduced to the main characters of the last book but you get a slightly more mature version. A tougher and slightly smarter version. You also get a glimpse into some characters from book 1 that didn’t get a chance to connect with the reader and boy am I glad that I did. 

 4.5 Quills

If there was a reward for most innovative Sci-Fi, this one definitely be in the running. I felt like this was a massive improvement because I was able to connect with Jess and David in ways that I couldn’t bring myself to do in book 1. In Fire in the Woods, I was just reading about any ole characters, I was kind of just going through the motions but in this follow, the characters felt more solid and developed. A definite improvement! I also enjoyed the action and descriptions more in this book then the last! It was ‘out of this world’… I need to stop making these horrible puns I know!

My Take:

That was both heartbreaking and beautiful. Star Crossed meets Hunger Games meets Avatar. This was a tear jerker that was impossible to put down. The characters had such raw and endearing qualities that I found it impossible not to love them. This was also a very ‘meaty’ book, long and descriptive but never once boring. Its over 60 beautifully written chapters that took a good chunk of my day to read through. That was really refreshing and I can definitely see people enjoying this book throughout a nice long rainy weekend.



I loved how the girls were portrayed and the whole premise of this story was enthralling. My only forewarning to any prospective readers is the synopsis. That was literally the least descriptive synopsis ever, it barely skims the surface of this book. The story was about sooo much more than what you are lead to believe. If this was written any differently that may have been the nail in the coffin for this book but luckily, I found this story so appealing that I didn’t care that the synopsis was vague and lacking. It was literally just a quick summary of the first couple of chapters and not at all of the story as a whole. Had this book been split into different novels it probably would have suited the book more but as it stands, the description could use a little sprucing up.

I loved the way the friendships were forged and portrayed and found our main characters to be some of the most real and noble I’ve ever read. The romance takes a really long time to show itself so if you’re looking for an instant connection love story, this probably isn’t for you but I actually loved that about this book. It lets Mira develop as a person and do what needs to be done.

4.5 Quills

I not only recommend this book to all science fictions readers but I also recommend some tissues be in your general vicinity. I loved the length of this book and the content. It was literally an all-around good read. The cover is amazing and yet simplistic and the title is absolutely perfect.

My Take on the Book:

Holy fudge cakes and brownies. I always try to write a review immediately after reading a book. There's just something about expressing my reactions and my feelings about a book to you readers immediately after while everything I'm feeling is still fresh. But I have a feeling, but even had I waited to write this review my emotions would be just as fresh.

I absolutely adored this book I loved the romance between Tommy and Emily and the friendship between Emily and Roz. It was such a sweet story but it had such a gritty truth. Yes there were some supernatural aspects what with with mostly everybody having some sort of power but the underlying issues were very real.

In the story we are introduced to a very damaged girl, someone that is ridiculed and bullied. But she rises above all of that and becomes a strong independent character someone you're rooting for. It doesn't hurt the story that she has such an amazing supporting cast. I really enjoyed each character and how thought out they were, their back stories and how their powers are interwoven into their lives. There a few characters I would like to know more about and hopefully this isn't a one shot book and that it is part of a series so that I can read more about this world.

I've got to give major kudos to the author for helping to create a world that was so easy for me to immerse myself in. It led me to the daunting task of precariously balancing a bowl of soup and my Kindle on my lap since I was unable to stop myself from reading. Sure it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize I should have sat at the table but hey I'm sick what do you expect from me. Even so, I don't think I took more than a ten minute break from this book at a time it was just that good.

Tommy is the kind of love intrest that you root for. He's a good guy, though severely misunderstood. But throughout the book you see what a good influence he is on Emily and how he helps raise her self esteem and self worth. While Roz is your typical awesome beautiful best friend. She wants nothing more then to see her friend Emily happy. She's just a whole heartedly good person. Another character I found really intriguing was Lauren, Emily's older sister, there's more to her than we get to read about and I really hope that if this is part of a series that we get a little more in-depth characterization of her.

5 Quills

Truthfully, there is a bit of predictability, you kind of know who the antagonist of the story really is but there's so much more going on that it's okay. You may find yourself a little annoyed at how slow the characters are in discovering the truth in multiple situations but you remember with everything that's going on in their lives and the fact that they are just high school students, that there isn't much you can expect. 

I wholeheartedly recommend that you all stop reading this review and pick up your copy of Connected because it's a read that is definitely worth your time and money.

My Take On The Book:

This is an interesting story full of science and mystery. A book with a nice mix of real myths/folklore and realistic science.

When I first read the synopsis, I was intrigued. I wasn’t sure if I should review it because I have such a hectic schedule currently so I closed the email. I usually love books like this and I really wanted to read it, so I found myself going back to the email multiple times. Obviously, I caved and signed up for the tour and this review is the result.

The Great (Pros):

• Story. The story was entirely unique and a completely different approach to shifters. It was interesting in a way that I haven’t seen in a while my closest comparison would be American Werewolf in Paris and even then they are completely different. The only real similarity is the use of science and serums to control the shifts.

• Setting. I absolutely love that this story starts in Ireland. It gives the story that much umph.

• Characters.  I really enjoyed most of the characters. The only issue I had with the characters were the random introductions and then you are expected to remember them.

• Folklore. I really really REALLY loved the inclusion of real folklore legends. Not many authors take the time to actually do research on a myth and include them so deeply into their story.

The Not So Great (Cons):

• Repetition. Repetition drives me bonkers and if this book had a drinking game attached to it, I’d be drunk 3 times over by chapter 20 and well on my way to the hospital by the end of the book. It was the constant use of the word ‘lycanthrope’ that had me, in my roommates words, groaning like I’d just noticed my worst enemy had eaten all my chocolate.

• Execution. I absolutely loved the first 15 chapters or so, then everything seemed to slow too drastically for my taste and I found myself really wanting to skim the chapters to get to the good bits, which did not really come until the very end.

• Length. The book was loooonnnggggg. I love meaty books, they transport you to a magical world for an extended period of time, but coupled with the pace the length seemed too grueling.

• Locations. As I stated in the pro ‘setting’ I loved that the story begins in the bog of Ireland but I genuinely felt like the story would have done better still in Ireland rather than being moved back to the states. We don’t get many out of the US YA books and I would have liked to see the story continue in a place I’ve always wanted to visit.

3.5 Quills/4 Quills

Overall, I enjoyed this book regardless of the lengthiness and repetition. It was unique and intriguing and a book I would recommend to most young adult readers. If you enjoy science-y stuff and shifters this is the perfect book for you. Keep in mind that it is lengthy about 70 something chapters.

My Take On The Book:

Oh dear lord, the tears! Before jumping into this review, I should warn you all that while reading this book you will want to have tissues present. I loved this series, this book being one of my favorites but it is heavy on the tear jerk factor and sure to make you cry.

As a whole this book had more going for it than book 1 ‘Rematch’ but it was not as action packed and interesting as book 2 ‘Double Fault’. Regardless the author does a superb job and introducing the characters the story and making the reader fall I love with them. I was very invested in the happiness of these characters and I think Casey, Trent and Lorelai are noble and extremely loveable.

In the series, book one in my opinion served as a very long introduction to the characters and what is a very epic tale of heroism, heart break and time travel. Book 2 on the other hand introduces you to the very sinister side of this tale, filled with action and suspense. It’s the kind of book you’re afraid to put down, the kind you NEED to know the ending to. This book, ‘Duece’ the third instalment is just shy of a 5 quill raiting because it left me feeling dissatisfied. Like the story I so thoroughly enjoyed and the characters I was invested in didn’t get a proper ending. While I thoroughly enjoyed this book and felt it was exponentially better than the first it was marginally less enthralling than the second. Read on for a break down.

The Great (Pros):

• Trent & Casey. Sickening at time lol this love-struck soul mate couple is in my opinion one of the best couple in the YA genre. They are faulted as any teenager but they are all around good people who are easy to get invested in. All through the series, their moral compass stays true and you find yourself really and I do mean really hoping for a happily ever after.

• Lorelai. What is not to love about this loyal, loving, diva sister and friend. She’s fierce and vulnerable and a complete oxymoron (you know like ‘little big’ ‘dark light’ contradictions). She’s an anomaly if you’ve ever seen one and one of the best constructed support characters that push their way into the lime light. I’d be surprised if anyone reading this series didn’t love her. 

• Kelli. She was awesome in book 1 and not so great in book 2 but she definitely redeems herself in this timeline and book. In this one she is the epitome of an amazing best friend.

• Dual Jumping thing. Without giving to much away… I hope this is one of the best cliffhangers and plot twist I’ve encountered. Yes it was a bit predictable but the good kind that still shocks you.

The Not So Great (Cons):

• Casey’s Parents. I wanted to like them I really did, but from book one they just rubbed me the wrong way. In this one, they were too overbearing and controlling.

• The Unanswered &The Unfinished. I described this con a bit before but to get a bit more in depth, the story and characters didn’t seem to get a proper ending if you get my drift. There was a certain umph or calming sensation that was missing when I read the last page. Like their story was incomplete. Its kind of hard to but the feeling into words without divulging the plot.

• Rushed. I felt like I was in a rush for the finish line, out of breath and then when you think you can catch it, the unthinkable happens. I’m usually a big fan of the adrenaline rush but paired with the cons above it felt dissatisfying.

4.5 Quills

It was a fast paced ride, one that I enjoyed immensely. It had its up and downs and trust me guys the downs are real downs so don’t forget you tissues. But above all else, this series is unique and entirely too good for you all to pass up. <3

My Take On The Book:

There is so much to say about this book and yet I find myself at a loss for words.

First let me say how much I enjoyed reading about each character seen through the eyes of Jax, and while she has her own opinions, he own likes and dilikes I was able to make my own assessment of these characters. Their stories were crafted beautifully if not heartbreakingly so. But not only were the characters and their stories unique and surprising but kinda uplifting. I’ll explain that more later.

In this story you are introduced to a whole heap of characters most notably is the female lead and narrator Jasmine (Jax). She is extremely vulnerable, jaded and pretty much shattered (broken is to simple a word to describe her) but Jax is also fierce, loyal and loving. The next character I came to hold in high regard is the beautifully mysterious alien boy Lir. Its hard not to fall in love with him. But the most entertaining thing about this book besides the romantic development between the 2 leads was the stories conflicts. The book is littered with prejudices and heartbreak but while that was a main focus for the character’s choices and actions what I remembered most after finishing was not the negative but the positive that comes in the form of family, friendship and love, an undying loyalty to those you care most for.

Its an enthralling tale and a perfect first book to this series. I’m eager to learn more about this damaged world and the people/aliens inhabiting it.

The Great (Pros):

• The Ending. The highest praise I can give this book is to its ending. While it is a cliff hanger, one that will leave you jonesing for book 2 ‘Fractured Suns’. It’s an ending that will most definitely leave you with a heavy heart and your throat tight.  

• Unpredictability. While there are some elements in this story that you might suspect, there are a hell of a lot that you won’t see coming.

• Jax. As I said earlier, Jax is a shattered girl. As the synopsis says, she killed to men and went bonkers but her character has this way of persevering and there is so much strength in her it hard not to admire her. She has a survival instinct that also conflicts with her conscience and she so utterly human and flawed you want to see a happy ending for this fierce a loyal warrior.

• Lir. Prepare to swoon on sight. He is so charming and maybe just a tad smug. I love the way Ms. Kay describes him. The differences between the humans and the aliens is kinda breathtaking.

The Not So Great (Cons):

• Something. I’m not sure what that something is but it made me want to skim over some parts of the story it was a constant struggle for me to keep my mind on the current page. It was harrowing, I just wanted to get to the end… maybe it was too much emphasis on the anticipation.

4.5 Quills

But over all it was a great read with consistent characters and a beautiful story. While reading this book and writing this review I caught myself thinking about the shows ‘Star Crossed’ with Matt Lanter and ‘Rosswell’ with Shiri Appleby. The only person she knows who had a subscription to Writer's Digest at eleven and was always excited to write research papers, Theresa has been putting words to paper since a young age. She writes predominantly in the sci-fi and urban fantasy genres.
