Book Description:
"Do
you want me to be dangerous?" he asked, his voice husky and low.
I gulped, and for a moment I was incapable of speech. But he was quiet, waiting. "No. I don't."
"Then I'm not dangerous at all," he murmured. His gaze moved from my eyes to my mouth. "You've never been safer than you are at this moment." I shivered as his breath tickled my skin. Our lips were mere millimeters apart when the sky shattered in a kaleidoscope of colored light.
We didn’t know how much we had to lose until we were infected with magic. Sam was in love, Juliette was the main caretaker for her siblings, and Ana and her dad planned the best parties in New York. But we lost it all when we were shipped to Chebeague, an exclusive school for newly infected mages.
Everyone knows about the mages, those who survive the infection and end up with magical abilities. We’ve seen the power of magic, the high-paying jobs, and the world fame. But we never saw the cost. We didn’t know we’d be forced to give up everything: sanity, family, even the right to talk on the phone.
We didn’t know mage was just another word for prisoner.

My
Take On The Book:
Holy crap
on a stick! And I mean that in a completely awesome way, I swear. I really
loved this book, it had a couple of moments in the beginning that kind of
dragged but once it picked up the storyline rocked my socks. The characters
were great and their progression in this story was even better. So I’m skip all
the other mumbo jumbo and jump right into the good stuff.
The
Great (Pros):
- Juliette aka Tornado Girl. She was my favorite character by far. She was different from most leads and I found myself really enjoying the story when it was in her POV or pertaining to her.
- Sam Ryan. Adorable flirt. Loyal and kind. He was my second favorite and I loved his POV just as much as Juliette’s
- Anna. I liked her attitude. Though she wasn’t as abrasive as Juliette she was a nice counter balance and a great female best friend to Jules.
- The concept of mages. Lately, I’m been really into books with magic. They’ve been good, some great but they almost always focus on witches of some kind so Mages was something totally different and really enjoyable. I also liked the breakdown of power, it made the story and the magic all the more enjoyable and memorable.
- Elite + Battle. I liked the concept of the Elite and the battle between them and the main characters gave me chills.
- James. Swoon, he was just awesome. What Sam lacked in suave finesse, James more than made up for.
- Romance. Though a part of this will land itself in the cons list, I really enjoyed the development in the chemistry between each character. Most notably, in the romance department. It felt real in a world that was totally fantastical… and made the characters more tangible. There was no instant connection/spark but a steady thrum that built to a kelidescope crescendo. I <3 it!
The
Not So Great (Cons):
- Love Triangles. Left and right they smack you in the face. Basically every character is a part of one. Both Girls, dead center, all the guys…. It’s just too much. Although, Juliette’s is a bit different from the normal love triangle. I like Zach but I loved Sam and truthfully I like them both with her buttttt from the moment she shoves him and calls him a perv and he dubs her Tornado Girl I was hooked and rooting for them.
- Minor Discrepancies. Like so minor they are really worth mentioning but since I had so many pros I felt like I should add this to the cons for balance lol.
4.5 Quills
I was really shocked by this book and how much I liked
it. The ending was awesome, and I kept thinking back on the characters way
after I’d finished the book. I would definitely recommend this book and I’ve
already forced my friends into submission cause this is definitely a series you
guys are gonna want to read. I look forward to the next book and seeing where
the story and characters leads.
About The Authors
Sabrina
West, Sheena Boekweg and Melanie Crouse never dreamed they would actually
create a book worth publishing when they started writing together. Alchemy was
merely supposed to be an exercise in flexibility. And it has been that, but it
is so much more. Friendships that span the American continent have been forged,
and unforgettable characters have been created.
