Book Description:

How long can a monster stay hidden in plain sight?

Seventeen-year-old Hope Nicholas has spent her entire life on the run. But no one is chasing her. In fact, no one even knows she exists. With her mom, she’s traveled from town to town and school to school, barely staying long enough to meet anyone, let alone make friends. And she’ll have to keep it that way. It’s safer.

When her mother is brutally ripped away from her, Hope’s life shatters. Is this the fulfillment of Apollo’s curse, murder from the shadow monsters of the Underworld, or have the demigods finally found her? Orphaned and alone, Hope flees again, but this time there’s no one to teach her who to trust—or how to love.

Set in a universe where mythology is alive and well in the modern world, Curse of the Sphinx irresistibly blends action, suspense and romance.

My Take on the Book:

First and foremost let me say that I loved this book! I’m a huge fan of mythology, Greek, Norse and Egyptian being my favorites so this was a book right up my alley.

With that said, there were a couple of off putting moments and personality traits of some characters and the story did drag a bit at times but it in NO WAY took away from the story’s overall greatness.

I loved the Sphinx mythology and I’m gonna get my hands on the prequel to get a more in depth look into this universe.

The characters were solid and likeable and I found myself giddy with the cuteness that the romance in this story brought to the whole picture this author was painting us.

I think the off putting moments were mainly in the tone. I found myself a bit lost in terms of who knew what. At moments I felt like our main character was interacting with 2 different male leads as opposed to the one. I also found myself questioning if he was who I thought he was or if he lost his memory or something along those lines.

BUT, I still loved Athan and Hope. I thought they were adorable!

4.5 Quills

I think I mainly want to read the next book to see where these characters go and how they develop because this was a pretty great beginning to what has the makings of a great series. There is so much we don’t know and I’m excited to learn it all.

About The Author

Raye Wagner grew up in Seattle, the second of eight children, and learned to escape chaos through the pages of fiction. As a youth, she read the likes of David Eddings, Leon Uris, and Jane Austen. Inspired by a fictional character, Raye pursued a career in nursing, thinking to help the world one patient at a time.

One summer afternoon, when her then young children were playing in the pool, a plot dropped into her head, and she started writing.

She enjoys baking, puzzles, Tae Kwon Do, and the sound of waves lapping at the sand. She lives with her husband and three children in Middle Tennessee.

Origin of the Sphinx, a novella detailing the story leading up to the creation of the mythological creature, is her first publication. It is the beginning of the Sphinx series.

Curse of the Sphinx, the first book in the series, is completed, and set to be released in August 2015.

My Take on The Book:
Wow

That was awesome . At first I was 100 percent sure how that story has characters very strong from the beginning and the story seems to thrust you into a world that already has so much going on . Luckily, the story finds a seamless way to introduce you to past events and what makes all these characters tick.

I really enjoyed the new world and all the inner workings of their 'hierarchy'. The characters are not the kind you can ignore and I couldn't help but love them. I do admit though that there were plenty of times that said characters pissed me off... they were extremely stubborn after all but for the most part I found them to be really enjoyable and I liked the unconventional romance. I also really liked how different the supernatural beings are in this book.

I look forward to reading book 2 ‘Forest Fire’ because this definitely ended with a cliff hanger! But I think this is a solid read that most of you are going to enjoy :)

Book Description:

Sophie Bloom’s junior year has been a bit of a train wreck. After the world’s greatest kiss re-awakened Sophie’s true identity as Persephone (Goddess of Spring and Savior of Humanity), she fought her dragon-lady guidance counselor to the death, navigated mean girl Bethany’s bitchy troublemaking, and dealt with the betrayal of her backstabbing ex, Kai (sexy Prince of Darkness). You’d think a girl could catch a break.

Yeah, right.

With Zeus stepping things up, it’s vital that Sophie retrieve Persephone’s memories and discover the location of the ritual to stop Zeus and Hades. So when Aphrodite strikes a deal that can unlock Sophie’s pre-mortal past, what choice does the teen goddess have but to accept?

The mission: stop media mogul Hermes from turning Bethany into a global mega-celebrity. The catch? Aphrodite partners Sophie and Kai to work together … and treat this suicide mission as a date. Which could work out for Sophie’s plan to force Kai to admit his feelings for her–if she doesn’t kill him first.

Add to that the fact that BFF Theo’s love life and other BFF Hannah’s actual life are in Sophie’s hands, and suddenly being a teenager—even a godlike one—seems a bit like … well, hell. Whatever happened to dinner and a movie?

The YA romantic comedy/Greek mythology fireworks continue to fly inMy Date From Hell. Love meets comedy with a whole lot of sass in book two of this teen fantasy romance series. Breaking up is easy; dating is deadly.

My Take:

Wow! Hot damn. I have the super huge addiction to all things Greek mythology. I named my cats Nyx… So suffice to say, when I was approached with the opportunity to read and review this book, I may or may not have jumped on and down in my computer chair.

The story was epic and the characters beautifully crafted. But truly mare than the story & its memorable characters, I fell in love with the writing style. It was seamless and poetic. I was fully enthralled from page one, so much so that I may or may not have read both books back to back at night with no care in the word sleep.

I have no complaints with the story other than, I want book 3 right now. Patience is definitely not one of my strong points and those cliff hanger endings can really drive a girl mad.

I didn’t even mind the divergence from real Greek mythology much. It helped to mold the story and make it unique plus I kinda sorta maybe love Kai aka Kryllios <3.

5 Quills

Read it! But be warned you have a too hot to handle broody God or the Underworld, a sassy Goddess turned Human, Titans and nerdy humans. If that’s not enough, you’ve also got a shit ton of twists & turns and some pretty stellar cliff hangers.

Book 3 where are you?!? I even had to read book 2.5 ‘A Date of Godlike Proportions’ to get my fix…. But it didn’t work!

Don’t miss My Life From Hell, releasing March 20, 2014. Which is also spring equinox and the date of  Sophie's final showdown with Zeus and Hades in the book.
